What I've learnt in 2015.

Hello Giants

This is the last day of 2015 and in about 11 hours we will be in 2016. I can't believe how much time has flown. It was 1 January 2015 just yesterday and now we are almost in 2016. It just goes to show how precious time is.

2015 was a year of ups and downs for me, mostly downs but nevertheless I thank God that I'm alive and well to experience a new year with him leading and guiding me. This post is about all the things I've learnt in 2015, the good and the bad and things I plan to take with me into 2016.

•Life goes on.
•This too shall pass.
•Keep positive no matter what life throws at you.
•Love yourself first to be able to love someone else.
•Have goals.
•Have faith that everything is going to be okay.
•Change is constant and there's nothing you can do about it.
•Sometimes God uses a bad situation to get you to a better place; spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically.
•Be confident.
•Go after your dreams.
•Never give up, it may get tough but you are tougher.
•Network! Who you associate with is very important in life.
•I am stronger than I've ever been.
•I am loved, favoured and blessed.
•Money may make the world go round but you are responsible for your own happiness. You make yourself happy, from the inside out.
•You have to be able to give with a joyful heart in order to receive.
•God is number 1! (this is my personal opinion which I do not force anyone else to believe in.)
•Family is everything, this includes my wonderful boyfriend who has been an amazing and legendary support system and shoulder to cry on. He's the best!
•My twin sister is my best friend and the only person who understands how insane 2015 has been but as usual we keep each other strong. She keeps me going and everyone needs that person when days are dark.
•There will be good days and bad days, and that is okay.
•Not everything will go your way and that is okay.
•Not everyone will like you and that is okay.
•Waste your Precious time Wisely.
•Do not procrastinate.
•Work smart.
•Be organized.
•Do all the important things first so it's out of your way and you don't have to worry about it anymore.
•Worry less, Pray more.
•Wake up full of purpose.
•Be grateful for the things you have especially for the fact that you are alive and able to do what others can't.
•Life is simple, we just tend to complicate it.
•Give Love, Be Loved and show Love.
•Meditate to clear your mind and control your thoughts. This is something I want to work on very hard in 2016. I need to master controlling my thoughts so that my thoughts don't control me.
•Keep active. This includes exercising, doing some hobbies, taking walks, enjoying a swim. You have to keep your body active so that you have all the energy you need. A lot of the time in the year I felt fatigued and lethargic and it was because I wasn't as active as I should've been. This added onto my stress levels which further lowered my energy. It was such a bad cycle. I never want to experience it again.
•Eating clean and drinking lots of water. For all of you who know me personally you know how much I love my water, I drink at least 1,5L a day usually more but that's the minimum. I would like to work on eating clean more. It definitely helps with energy levels and you feel light and full throughout the day. It's also a great way to detox.
•Smell good. It not only shows people you take care of yourself but smelling good makes you feel good about yourself. This is one thing I aim to do everyday. I get a lot of compliments on how great I smell which boosts my confidence and like I said makes me feel good.
•Dress good. I never compromise on this one. You can ask anyone at my medical campus, they will vouch for me. You always need to look good, not for others but for yourself. How do you expect someone else to take care of you or treat you with respect if they don't see you doing it for yourself? It starts with you. You have to show yourself respect and love so that others show that same level of love and respect to you.
•Enjoy life.
•Be happy.
•Forgive easily and move on. But don't forget.
•Mistakes happen, learn from them.
•Life is a lesson on its own.
•We all have our different paths to walk, so don't compare yourself to someone else and don't try to copy what they do, it may work for their path but not work for yours. Discover your path and stick to it.

These are a few things I've learnt and I hope to take with me in 2016. I hope you all have also reflected back on the year and decided what to leave in 2015 and what to take with you in 2016.

Best wishes for the new year.

Peace. Happiness. Success.

XO

Naomi's Road To Success:

Name: Naomi Shear

Occupation: GEMP 1 Medical Student

Goals: "I want to contribute (in no matter how small a way) to creating positive growth in the world. More personally, I want to feel content with what I have and to feel like I have stretched to reach my personal potential in every facet of life."

What is success? "Success is looking back on the day and feeling that you've moved somewhat towards a goal/goals you have set for yourself. And then looking back on the week, the month, the year and ultimately a lifetime and feeling that same sense of movement, achievement and satisfaction."

What success have you achieved? "Simultaneously a lot and very little."

What success do you want to achieve? "I'd like to quote one of my favourite Nelson Mandela quotes for this: "There is no passion to be found in playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living". I don't take this to mean that in order for a life to be successful and meaningful, one needs to be like Nelson Mandela the president. Rather I take it to mean that in order to be successful, we should live our lives and achieve our goals (no matter how small) like the Nelson Mandela who was kind, who was humble and who was passionate."

All the best on your road to success Naomi and may you achieve all that you want :) ...

THANK YOU READERS AND CONTRIBUTORS!

Hello Giants

I will be calling all the wonderful readers 'Giants' from now on, because without them this blog would just merely be another blog. Because of all you Giants, it is so much more. I have been receiving comments and emails of how the blog has touched people's lives and them telling me to keep the posts coming. It makes me so happy to know that I am helping someone out there. Sometimes all we need is a little inspiration and encouragement and we are full of it here on the blog.

Secondly I'd like to thank all the amazing people who have contributed to the blog, they are all the people who have shared their success with us and the rest of the world. I would like to mention that without your guys' different views on success the blog would be so average and surely you've noticed that this is not the case. So thank you for giving the blog the twist it needs.

I have watched this blog grow from 0 views to 40 000 views in 1 year and 6 months. That's amazing! I'm happy to see progress and to keep inspiring all you Giants.

Once again Thank You! Here's to many more posts, comments, Giants, contributors and views.

Things successful people do on Weekends!

Hello Giants

Since it's Friday and almost weekend, I thought it would be fitting if we spoke about some things successful people do on weekends. So while you read this post, if some things sound familiar then you may have the qualities of a successful person. But if you don't, have no fear, it's never too late to start working on having these qualities. If you want to be a part of the successful crowd then start doing these habits, you can do it slowly or you can do it all at once, as long as you try. They won't happen overnight but I believe in you and I know we all belong in the successful circle. Enter this weekend with these habits in mind and think about what you will start with and how long you plan to do this habit until you move on to the next.

The most important thing I can say is to always invest in yourself! Weekends are for recuperating and relaxing, spending time with your loved ones and definitely about reflecting on the past week and your life in general. It's very important to give yourself attention and to take a moment and just think of all the wonderful things you have and are yet to have.

14 Things Successful People Do On Weekends:

The picture above was found on Lifehack.org, as you guys know already I'm obsessed over this website. And as always your comments are always welcome!

Habits of Successful People VS Unsuccessful People!

Hello Giants

Have you ever wondered why other people succeed and you've been trying and trying to succeed but it's just not happening. What are they doing that you not? This post is about the habits of the successful vs unsuccessful people. Please know that I am not trying to make anyone feel bad, all I'm doing is trying to educate you. It's important to know what successful people are doing differently and to learn from that and try and incorporate it into your life.

Successful People Vs. Unsuccessful People (The habits that differentiate them):

I found the picture above on lifehack.org, I would urge you all to check their website out, I'm obsessed with their content.

Would love to hear what you think, leave all your comments below.

Road to success EP100!

Thulisile's Road To Success:

Name: Thulisile Madi

Occupation: "A full-time law student & blogger and aspiring photographer."

Goals: "To be content with my life and my career."

What is success? "Success for me can't be quantified, so the amount of money I have or could have isn't a sole motivator. Success is writing a poem that purely represents what I'm feeling and having someone somewhere out there who can relate and appreciate the words. Success is having a creative project come together after struggling through the creative process and other logistics and personally loving the end product. Success means something different to everyone, but in my opinion, success is happiness and the feeling of contentment, which no amount of money or no variation of words can truly quantify or define respectively."

What success have you achieved? "Upon having started my blog a year ago, the greatest successes for me have been a readership from all over the world, few as they may be in comparison to other bloggers, along with the opportunity to work with some great fashion brands to shoot my own style diaries and my recent opportunities to be on the other side of the camera as a photographer. All of these personal achievements can be attributed to blessings from God because many doors of opportunity opened when I least expected it, which is something I'm so grateful for!"

What success do you want to achieve? "I would looove to write song lyrics with artists in the future, a book and more opportunities to shoot blog editorials with my favourite brands. Most of all, I'd love to make a difference in the world, be it in my writing or in any other way. As much as success is a personal thing, I think that one of the greatest successes any writer can aim for is the success of touching someone else's heart through their writing. It's not the easiest thing to wear my heart on my sleeves by posting my poetry online but the feeling I get when someone tells me that they could relate supersedes any fears I could've ever endured initially."

Occupation: "I am currently a full time student and a part time make-up artist/stylist."

Goals: "My goal in life is to inspire as many people as possible to achieve their dreams and aspirations because I strongly believe everyone has a purpose."

What is success? "Success to me personally is various moments in my life when I feel fulfilled, almost as if a void in my heart is being filled. And this is mostly when I'm doing something selfless and helping other people. "

What success have you achieved? "I have achieved success in my career as a makeup artist and stylist, not only do I make people look outwardly beautiful. I also help them feel beautiful on the inside. Once I've completed a client's makeover, she instantly feels a lot more confident, the way she carries herself changes and to know that you participated in that transformation makes me feel so elated."

Goals: "My goals are to turn my dreams into a reality. I want to become an influential contributor to the fashion industry and inspire others to follow their dreams and never give up."

What is success? "I believe success is achieving what you set out to achieve. It's being content with what you're doing and what you have accomplished and never comparing yourself to others. Success isn't only about monetary gain but about being happy with yourself."

What success have you achieved? "I started my career purely from hard work and experience. I didn't have any prior training or qualification in the fashion field but decided to pursue it purely out of interest. I have built up a number of followers on social media and my blog is growing every day. I have been featured in Glamour Magazine as well as in Teenzone Magazine as a fashion contributor."

Nazlee's Road To Success:

Name: Nazlee Meas Durrell

Occupation: Supervisor in the financial industry

Goals: "To be an inspiration for young girls. There are so many negative influences in today's life and coming from a family of predominantly females, I know how important it is for a girl to have a role model."

What is success? "I've actually blogged about this here http://wp.me/s5kKFq-choices. I don't believe there is a clear definition however I strongly believe that success is made up of many small decisions that add to your big picture. When your heart is happy and content, for me that is a clear success."

What success have you achieved? "My success story is made up of a few 'happy heart' moments such as marrying the man of my dreams at 20 years old. Buying my dream house at 22 and having my daughter at 24."

What success do you want to achieve? "I'm in my first semester of tertiary studies and that's a huge success for me as I matriculated 10 years ago. I focused on being a wife and mother and now I am ready to begin my career in marketing."

Occupation: Fashion blogger/Retail associate

Goals: "To be the best person I can be. To grow daily in regards to spirituality with God. To be the best wife and mother I can be to my future husband and kids and to become a renowned fashion entrepreneur in Africa."

What is success? "This is probably the hardest question because there are so many definitions for success and all of them are right in one sense or the other. However, success to me is a lot of things. It is about setting a goal and achieving it. It is about being relentless and consistent in the pursuit of self development which goes on to affect the work that you do. Success is not about power or money, I think it is a more internal thing. It is about loving who you are and what you do. Most importantly, it is about being at peace with yourself."

What success have you achieved? "I would consider myself my greatest success. I went through a lot of challenges as a teenager and I must say that I am really proud of who I have become. I have grown immensely in so many areas of my life and I can not help but anticipate the future. I have also been successful in chasing my dreams in fashion industry but I believe that I will do much more in the near future."

What success do you want to achieve? "I plan to bag a Masters Degree in a fashion related course sometime next year so I hope everything works out as planned. I feel like my Masters Degree is one of the the major reasons as to why I haven't gone after some dreams of mine so I am very eager to accomplish that. I have more goals that I plan to successfully achieve but this is the most important one to me right now."

Hello Sunday!

Inspirational quotes to motivate and share

Tuesday 1 September 2015

Fear of The Unknown!

Do you ever just sit and think about life? Do you think about the possibilities that are out there? We live in a world where it has become a norm to have limits and just accept whatever life throws at us. We have put restrictions on our lives, our goals and our dreams. More and more people are becoming complacent in their circumstances that they are willing to adapt instead of removing those restrictions and achieving all they want.

There is a fear of the unknown. There are some people who are scared to fail, then there are also people who are scared of the success. We would rather struggle in our current circumstances than to try and change it because of our fears of disappointing ourselves and those around us.  In the video he mentions this quote "Human beings are the only life form that will do less than they possibly can." Wow!!! SHOCKING right?! Yet so true! Granted we have no knowledge about the future or how much time we have left, that should be motivation enough to go after your dreams.

This motivational video I am about to share with you is so profound and relevant that I cannot get enough of it. There are some amazing points to take note of! If you read the post I published on Living on borrowed time, you will have a better understanding on what 'borrowed time' really is. Instead of us focusing on how much time we have lost, we need to start making use of the time we have left more carefully and wisely. If you haven't read the post yet, please click here to read it, it'll be worth your while... Trust me!

Please enjoy the video!

Dream and Dream BIG!!!

Candice's Road To Success:

Name: Candice Petersen

Occupation: Receptionist and Beauty Blogger

Goals: "Where do I start? I have so many hopes and dreams in life and only wish that someday I will be able to accomplish them all. Right now I think my goal plans are to be able to make my blog one of the most read blogs in South Africa. I hope to reach a lot of young women. I just want to make a difference with the kind of posts I create and hope that others appreciate the hard work I put in. Also I would love to travel with my boyfriend, there is just so much to see out there and different cultures to experience. So travelling is definitely on the cards for me. I want to be able to grow my blog to a point where I am able to do it full time - this is going to be a chore, but something I strive towards so that I can do what I love all the time."

What is success? "For me success can be defined as so many things it's not always the large amounts of people who follow you, but how many of those people actually take the time to comment and praise the kind of content you put out. Success to me is how many true friends you have who actually support you no matter what. Success is also the amount of people who love and support you and don't shut you out when you need them most. Success is not by any means measured in money, but how much value you have in your life, to me that's the most important."

What success have you achieved? "I have not yet gotten to a point where I have achieved success, but I do have the most amazing boyfriend who has been the best support which really does help a lot."

What success do you want to achieve? "This ties in with my goals, once I have grown my blog to a point where I no longer need a day job that is when I consider myself successful."

Living on Borrowed Time.

As I was sitting in Church a few months ago listening to the pastor preaching, an idea came to mind. The sermon was about 'Time' and so I had a brilliant idea to make a post about 'Time'.

What you read above was what I had written almost a year ago. I have been procrastinating. At first I did not understand why, but now as the few months have passed, I now understand why now is the perfect time to finish the post. I needed to go through a few things before I could understand and have the knowledge to write this post. By now I'm sure you know that what has passed was not only months, but weeks too. Not only days, but hours too. Time passed, something I can never have back. So let me get started...

I came to realize and accept that every living organism on this earth is living on borrowed time. Now what do I mean by borrowed time well exactly that. Our time on Earth is borrowed, it isn't ours to keep, ours to know, ours to control ours to own and definitely not ours to change. What do I mean by this? Let me explain by asking you 3 simple questions:

  1. How long do you have to live?
  2. Once your time runs out, will you be able to reset it?
  3. Do you control time, can you pause it or rewind?
Those are only a few questions. The answers to those questions are simple. NO! NO! And NO to all three. Therefore it is not our time we living on rather borrowed time.

According to the definition of 'borrowed', there will come a point when we have to return/give back this 'time' that we were borrowed. This brings me to this, if time is really our most valuable resource then why do we waste it? Because once it's gone and our time has run out, there's nothing we can do to bring it back. Think about it, let it sink in. Why then do we waste it?

Our time is limited, therefore it should not be wasted. Let me ask you, if you had a R100 left in your account, would you spend it on alcohol or on food for the week? If you think like me then the answer would obviously be on FOOD for the week because spending it on alcohol would be a waste. Food would last and it would provide me with the nutrients I need to get through the week, alcohol on the other hand would be a "Now" thing, it would serve it's purpose and nothing more, it would not get me through the week or add any value to my life. Now if we consider time in this instance, it would be the R100. Wasting our time on things or people that do not benefit our lives or add any value to it is like the alcohol. On the other hand the following things I'm about to mention would be like food: Doing the things we love, spending time with our loved ones, setting goals and achieving them, going after our dreams, investing in ourselves mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally and most importantly loving ourselves and being kind to the world and each other.

So which would you spend your precious time on... actually let me rephrase the question. Which one of these have you been spending your time on? Have you been wasting your precious, borrowed and non renewable resource or have you been using it the best way possible? Think about it, no seriously just really think about it. To be honest I did waste a lot of time in the past, but now that I know better and have learnt so much, the wasting of time and taking it for granted has stopped and I will continue to use my borrowed time wisely. I do not want to look back years from now and think "Damn, I wasted the little time I had!". Regret is the worst thing one can have and experience.

So I urge you all today, please start using your time wisely. It's a precious thing and if I had a choice to have more money or more time, I'd definitely opt for more time because let's be honest money cannot buy you time but time can always bring you money if you work for it

Peace. Happiness. Success.

Road to success EP92!

Desola's Road To Success:

Name: Desola Oluwakemi Mako

Occupation: "Architect, Blogger at www.deemako.com, Communicator and Creative Director."

Goals: "To be successful at everything I lay my hands on and to make some money while at it."

What is success? "Happiness, Joy and Fulfillment. For me success only truly occurs when you feel any of these three feelings. One is never truly entirely successful till death as the more you live the more you set new goals but when you accomplish them, there is a feeling of satisfaction that translates into happiness, joy and fulfillment and maybe even pride in one's self and contentment, that for me is success."

What success have you achieved? "A whole lot, a few of them are that I have been successful in the area of education, crossing hurdles and keeping at it. I am also successfully running a blog which a while back seemed like would never happen. I have successfully ran and advised young businesses and people and their growths and successes have translated into mine."

What success do you want to achieve? "A whole lot also, I am yet to get married, have kids, start my dream businesses, build my house and even serve God the way I want to. I still want to travel the world, touch more lives and even personally become a better person and have a wider and vast knowledge about other subjects."

"I would like to add that the road to success is not easy at all. I personally am a doubter and a worrier, when I was in high school and earlier during my university days, I worried I wasn't smart enough, I worried I would never learn how to drive, I worried I would never be good enough, I NEVER THOUGHT I DESERVED WHAT  EVERYONE HAD, a lot of this worrying held me back and stopped me from doing so much but then I started to change my thoughts by challenging myself to do all those things I thought I would never be able to do, I started to drive all by myself and I started to engage in smart 'convos', I also started to teach tutorials and everyone started to call me intelligent and some said I was a go 'getter'. I realized at that point that all I ever want I can be and all I ever will be will be by my hand.
SO if you are reading this for inspiration, forget about those voices in your head and CHASE THAT DREAM. GO FOR IT. DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF WITH YOUR FRIENDS. DON'T LET THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF YOUR LIFE AFFECT YOU. YOU ARE BETTER THAT EVERYONE BECAUSE YOU ARE YOU.
Lastly don't measure success by material things, don't be money orientated because when you are down money can't lift you up, but a nice email from someone you helped, inspired or touched will not only lift you up but it will also inspire you as well.
Thank you and be successful."

I Am More Than What You See

It's the most annoying thing when people who don't even know you (even some who do) put you in a bubble. They define you based on their thoughts and how they see you. I am smart, ambitious and going places, I am more than what you see.

Road to success EP90!

Ayanda's Road To Success:

Name: Ayanda Thabethe

Occupation: Founder and MD of Buzzworthyproduction.co.za
                      Model

Goals: "To leave a lasting legacy as a woman who went out boldly, emptied all her skills and talents into doing what she was called to do. To always live a life of purpose and enjoy the journey."

What is success? "Success for me is when you are living a life that is in line with your purpose, having emptied out all your talents and skills doing what you love every day and being content with the results of your efforts."

What success have you achieved?

  • "I have obtained 2 degrees; Bcom Communication Degree and Honours Bcom Marketing Degree.
  • I have worked for 2 global organizations such as Johnson and Johnson and L'Oreal respectively.
  • I have launched 2 successful brands in the South African market when I was a brand manager for Dark and Lovely. My launch of the Dark and Lovely Amla Legend range was considered the benchmark launch for the rest of the consumer products division within L'Oreal.
  • I have since left corporate to start my own through the line organization, Buzzworthy production (Pty) Ltd which is already servicing blue chip clients and is part of some great initiatives, although I can't reveal these just yet. It is an honour and a real privilege to wake up every day and put bricks on the wall of my legacy. This for me is success in its truest form. Each effort everyday no matter how little contributes to the bigger goals.
  • I am also a part time South African model and it has proven my greatest asset to be able to say that being considered beautiful has no bearing on my intellectual capacity."

What success do you want to achieve? "I want to be counted amongst one of the most innovative and biggest marketing and creative agencies in the country. Now that's a goal that makes me jump out of bed every day!"

Cara-Lee's Road To Success:

Name: Cara-Lee Ruditzky

Occupation: Fashion Editor at Fairlady magazine

Goals: "Career wise I always dreamt of studying fashion and becoming a Fashion Editor. Personally I always had a goal to be healthy and happy in everything that I do and one day raise a family."

What is success? "I think success goes beyond work. Success is about your career but also your personal life and how you are able to make the two work together. Success to me is how happy you are doing something. I keep hearing that if you love what you do you cannot call it work. I used to think that was a load of nonsense but I am beginning to realize it is true. Success is about getting up everyday and looking forward to your day no matter what you have to do. If you can find that place, I think that is success. As well as being healthy, happy, living the personal life you want, that is the ultimate success."

What success have you achieved? "I did what I set out to do, at 28 years old I am proud to say I am Fashion Editor to one of SA's most well know women's magazines. I am also a fashion blogger (www.thefashiondepartment.co.za) through which I have had some really amazing opportunities. "

What success do you want to achieve? "Eventually I want to work for myself, I think I have a lot to learn still but I know that one day I will. "
