Success Alone!

This is an almost everyday conversation with my sister. We both never really understand why people are selfish with helping other people succeed. I mean I'm not saying give them your secrets and ideas and future projects but help a person out. Some advice, some tips, some direction, some support, that's all people really want. Then you actually find people who want you to be successful just not as successful as them. Yes fair enough I understand, it's always nice being known as the smartest, or the most successful, the wealthiest etc, but how will giving someone some tips or giving them a helping hand stop you from being all those things? I personally think people are selfish with their success. They don't want people around them to succeed or they can succeed just not as much as them.

Why is that? I don't really understand myself. Maybe it's jealousy or envy or cruelty or just wanting to always feel better and higher than someone else. I don't know if this is in my nature or not because I seem to support all my friends where I can, I have made an inspirational motivational blog to help those who are feeling helpless because I believe that everyone should succeed in life. Also I'm studying medicine and so is my sister so in order for us to be great doctors I believe we should be willing to help anyone who needs help or asks for it not just in terms of saving their lives but also in their every day things, their goals and aspirations too. Which we try our best to do. My boyfriend has a big heart so that also keeps me grounded and goes to show that if people like myself, my sister and boyfriend and many people out there that I know can just give a helping hand and support and inspire, why can't other people do it too? I'm always left in shock when some of the people I support don't support me back knowing very well how much I support them. I don't mind because I at least do have a solid support structure so I'm set but what about those people who don't?

Another thing that drives me crazy is when friends don't support each other, like we're friends but we in a competition to see who'll make it to the top first. Now there's healthy competition that's more of a 'that's how we motivate each other and give each other goals yet still push each other to succeed'. Now that's fine but those friends who literally don't support you when you support them or when they shrug off your projects and goals knowing very well how much it means to you. That I will never understand. I think if people who are succeeding in their path and their purpose in life could just support and guide and lend a helping hand to those who need it all of us could succeed. I always say that success is never selfish. Success is not only receiving but giving too.

I don't know about you guys but I not only want to be successful but I also want to be an inspiration, a role model and a mentor to someone or many people. It makes me feel good to know I've helped people or someone, even one life makes a difference. All the riches in the world can never outweigh having a good heart and helping those in need of help.

So I leave you with this, for those of you who are selfish with success and never support people on their ideas and plans, if you were in need of help would you want someone else to treat you the way you treat those who need your help? If no then why do you treat others that way? If yes well then I commend you.

Peace, Love and Happiness and remember, Success is never selfish!

What success have you already achieved? "I am an upcoming speaker...I have successfully changed the people I have spoken to so far, through my knowledge of life and again people who read my blog gave me a positive feedback. Through one of my posts Purpose and Identity many people have been saved many did no realize, how important that is, so after reading that blog they realized how important it is to know who you are and where you come from... most importantly to know that your creator formed you for a reason and that is the reason why we are still alive.."

Road to success EP35!

Kamogelo's Road to Success:

Name: Kamogelo Mafokwane

Occupation: Fashion Blogger and Stylist in London and Johannesburg; and London College of Fashion Student

Goal: "My goal in life, is to to make a difference in the community around me and then eventually the world through the means of fashion."

What is success? "I truly believe that success is not letting others define who you will be or what you will be in life. I believe you need to fall in love with yourself so that you are confident in achieving your very own best.  It’s about trusting in God and the process of accomplishing your dream that has a purpose in life. It’s about using your failures and turning them into victories. Your only enemy is yourself. You have two choices in life: wake up and chase your dreams or carry on sleeping and keep dreaming about them. Do something today that your future self will thank you for."

What success have you achieved? "Success doesn't always have to be the bigger picture. Each and every small achievement and blessing I have till now is a success for me. My success is the little achievements I make in a day, week or month, whether it is a new business venture or something as simple as an email of appreciation from a reader. I've been very blessed to be a fashion blogger and student with international exposure and to meet and work with many people in the fashion industry, so for now that is the greatest success I've achieved."

What success are you yet to achieve or want to achieve? "I really would love to make an impact in the fashion industry in South Africa with the international exposure I have. I also would love to make a difference in people’s lives and the less-fortunate community through the fashion industry. Our country has so many beautiful, intelligent and ambitious people that are interested or are in the fashion industry that could help make the difference in our community. There are so many different ways to teach and reach out to people in the community, we just need a new and creative way to do it. Fashion is one of the approaches I would take in life to make an impact in the community and I trust that God will guide me in achieving this in the future."

Infect the world with Positivity!

Work where you love to shop! #Fashion #LOFTgirl #AnnTaylor

You have the ability to infect people in a positive or a negative way. So choose wisely whether you want to affect someone positively or negatively because at the end of the day if you chose to be positive then you're the one who ends up winning because you have changed someone else's life in a positive way. It's so easy to be negative but because you chose to be positive and affect and infect someone in a positive way, you have won and have conquered that day, you chose the hard way and not the easy way of being negative and in turn changed someone else's life. That on it's own is an achievement and is a success that you have achieved in a day.

We need more people on this earth to be positive doers and not just talk the talk or make others do it, we need to set an example and spread positivity day by day, stranger to stranger. We dream of happiness, world peace and so forth, why dream when we can make it a reality everyday just by being positive and kind and helpful to the next person. In my opinion I think that's all it takes.

Peace, Love and Happiness...

What I know at #23!!!

What I know at #23

  • Life is too short.
  • I know who I am, I know my Identity and I know that God is my author and finisher. God will forever be my number 1 no matter what.
  • I am not popular or 'cool' and that's okay. I don't have time to get everyone to like me or to talk to me. I don't wake up every morning with the aim of making as many friends as I possibly can. I have better things to do and that's to live my life and achieve my dreams.
  • It's the little things that matter most.
  • The past is history, there's no future there so stop looking back and talking about what's already happened. Look to the future.
  • Know when to let go.
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
  • Change is inevitable, embrace it.
  • What you have and what you own does not make you YOU!
  • People come and go. You need to decide who you want to stay and who should permanently leave your life. Value your friendships, but those who don't make an effort in your life, Kindly open the door and bid them farewell forever. CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY. There is a Chinese proverb that says "Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are."
  • Be a blessing. Be kind.
  • Learn to FORGIVE not for their sake but for your own.
  • Thinking of doing something and actually doing something is 2 different things. Think then Do. Don't just think, DO!
  • Failure happens, it's not the end of the world. Before success there is usually failure. Embrace it, learn from it.
  • You have your life in your hands. You want to live a certain life? You have the power to make that happen.
  • It's always easier to think negatively, but you need to always CHOOSE to think positively. Don't let your thoughts control you. Control your thoughts!!
  • What you think you become!
  • The power lies within you.
  • Family is everything! I repeat FAMILY is EVERYTHING!
  • Not everyone is out to get you but you need to know how to differentiate them from those who are. Keep your eyes open.
  • You need to love yourself.
Peace, Love and Happiness!

Keep your head up!

Life is hard I know, but you gotta keep your head up. No matter what happens, keep that chin up. Know that Life is hard for everyone, don't let it make you miserable. Keep your head up my love!

One can choose to go back to safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.

Road to success EP34!

Tegan's Road to Success:

Name: Tegan Smith

Occupation: Fashion, Event and Blogger photographer

Goal: "I believe that what is meant to happen, will happen and have just reached my first goal in life which is to work fully as a freelance photographer. My goal in life is to be successful, and comfortable, freelancing and doing what I love. Very few people enjoy their job and my goal is to keep my photography career and therefore enjoy what I do. I would like to travel with my work - this is my next goal to achieve - I have travelled SA but would like to start branching out to the overseas market and photograph behind the scenes and street style for large fashion shows and events, this would be the ultimate dream for me!"

What is success? "Success, in my opinion, is when you are happy with your life. Success is living happily and not about how many digits you have in the bank. There are many rich "successful" people in the world, but are they happy? If not, then is that really success? Success to me, is achieving your goals one by one and truly being satisfied with who YOU are and where you are in your life."

What success have you already achieved? "I have been successful in freelancing in my dream job and meeting amazing, inspiring people along the way. I have been able to travel SA with my career and hopefully overseas in the near future. A big achievement for me is to have my equipment. Photography is a very VERY expensive career to be in as you are judged on your equipment and not by your work (generally) so one is always upgrading software and buying new pieces of equipment. I have studied and bought all equipment by saving very long and hard and that for me is a BIG success."

What success are you yet to achieve? "I would like to have my own house studio one day, with great views and be able to give others, who are still learning , the opportunity to practice and be creative without a budget for a studio. I would like to travel overseas and shoot for well-known international brands. I am very hard on myself and will never be fully satisfied with were I am. I am always working towards a bigger, better goal so I still have a lot to achieve in SA and internationally."

All the best on your road to success Tegan...

Nikki's Road to Success:

Name: Nikki Shaw

Occupation: Fashion Blogger

Goal: "To make my passion into a full time job! I would love to take my blog further, and hopefully turn it into a successful job one day."

What is success? "Happiness! I think success comes from being happy, doing something you love and enjoy will give you more motivation to work harder, therefore becoming successful!"

What success have you already achieved? "I think, not only starting my blog (which is a bit daunting at first, when you think no one will actually read it!) but learning about making it better everyday through a little bit of hard work is a success! Being featured on a few fashion platforms is also a personal success, such as TeenVogue and Mr Price- InTheFashionLoop!"

What success are you yet to achieve? "I still want to achieve so much! I want to better my blog. I absolutely love learning about fashion, and becoming part of the fashion community in a broader aspect would be amazing! (maybe even internationally one day!) :)"

See it, Say it and Seize it!

Short but Powerful!

Had an amazing service at church on Sunday. My pastor spoke about how we need to approach our goals, dreams and our hearts' desires. He spoke about how we need to SEE our dreams as in visualize what we really want and visualize ourselves having those things. Secondly he then spoke about saying it. You got to SAY to yourself and the universe that you Will get whatever it is that you want. You need to reconfirm and remind yourself that this is what you want and that you will get it. You need to say it so you can believe it. Last thing he said was to SEIZE all that you want. So work hard towards the things you want. Take those steps to get to the top, build brick by brick till you have a wall. Do whatever you can to get the things you want. Pray, push, believe, commit and be persistent.

•See it!
•Say it!
•Seize it!

This was powerful for me. It just goes to show that no matter where you look or what you read or hear, the ingredients and 'steps' to success never change. There's no easy road but trust me it'll be worth it! It'll not happen as fast as lightning or even at a blink of an eye but if you can be patient then guaranteed you will achieve all your dreams and your heart's desires. Be confident in yourself, see your dream, say it loud and seize it.

And always remember! You need to first believe in your dreams before anyone else can!

Peace, Happiness and Success!

Self Worth!

Too many of us especially us ladies sell ourselves short. Read this and know your self worth:

Self worth

In a brief conversation, a man asked a woman he was pursuing the question:

'What kind of man are you looking for?'

She sat quietly for a moment before looking him in the eye & asking,
'Do you really want to know?'

Reluctantly, he said, 'Yes.

She began to expound,’
As a woman in this day & age,
I am in a position to ask a man what you can do for me that I can't do for myself.

I pay my own bills.
I take care of my household without the help of any man...
or woman for that matter.

I am in the position to ask, 'What can you bring to the table?'

The man looked at her. Clearly he thought that she was referring to money.

She quickly corrected his thought & stated, '
I am not referring to money.
I need something more.
I need a man who is striving for excellence in every aspect of life.

He sat back in his chair, folded his arms, & asked her to explain.

She said, 'I need someone who is striving for excellence mentally because I need conversation & mental stimulation. I don't need a simple-minded man.

I need someone who is striving for excellence spiritually because I don't need to be unequally yoked...believers mixed with unbelievers is a recipe for disaster.

I need a man who is striving for excellence financially because I don't need a financial burden.

I need someone who is sensitive enough to understand what I go through as a woman, but strong enough to keep me grounded.

I need someone who has integrity in dealing with relationships. Lies and game-playing are not my idea of a strong man.

I need a man who is family-oriented. One who can be the leader, priest and provider to the lives entrusted to him by God.

I need someone whom I can respect... In order to be submissive, I must respect him.

I cannot be submissive to a man who isn't taking care of his business.
I have no problem being submissive...he just has to be worthy.

And by the way, I am not looking for him...He will find me.
He will recognize himself in me.
He may not be able to explain the connection, but he will always be drawn to me.
God made woman to be a help-mate for man. I can't help a man if he can't help himself.

When she finished her spill, she looked at him.

He sat there with a puzzled look on his face. He said, 'You are asking a lot.

She replied, "I'm worth a lot "

Know your worth ladies and everyone else out there!

Peace, Love and Happiness.

Tell me I can't do it and I'll do my best to prove you wrong!

I can do ANYTHING I set my mind on doing!

I Love it when people say that I can't do something or that it's impossible and all the other negative things negative people say. It's the most rewarding thing and most amazing feeling to prove them wrong. I don't know about you guys but the minute someone is like "You can't do that." It's literally a push to actually do it, to make it happen and to prove them wrong.

I won't lie to you guys I love proving people wrong, I really do. What's even greater is that I prove myself right, That no matter what I can do anything I set my mind to. Awesome right?!

So the next time someone says "You can't do that." or "That's impossible." or "That's too hard or you're not that smart." or whatever their reasons are for your inability to do it... Prove them wrong and just do it. Do it so well so you can tell them "I did it! What was is that you said I couldn't do? Oh yes Nothing. Because I can do anything I set mind to!"

Peace, Happiness and Success to everyone!

Today we pay Tribute to Maya Angelou... May her Soul Rest In Peace!

I know this may be like a week or two late, but I wanted to wait till the realization of Dr Maya Angelou's passing had sunk in. Many of us were lucky enough to have known her and to be alive to hear all that she said and read all that she wrote. I wanted to do a tribute in remembrance of her and to educate those who didn't quite know her. To the younger generation, I'm sorry that you never got to see her or sit in awe as she spoke. You missed an angel and one of the best and most inspiring females to walk this earth. Don't worry though, she wrote many books and poems and I would definitely advise at least reading one of her amazing works.

Tribute to Dr Maya Angelou
(4 April 1928-28 May 2014)

Name: Marguerite Annie Johnson
Occupation: Poet, Civil Rights Activist, film producer, dancer, television producer, playwright, film director, author, actress and professor.
Ethnicity: African American

Dr Maya Angelou, a great woman indeed. She made her dreams a reality and as a young girl, my mother stayed talking about Maya, how she was an inspiration to many. She was an amazing poet, I'm not particularly a poetry fan but her poems were exceptional and very hard not to enjoy. She has published 7 autobiographies, 3 books of essays and several books of poetry. She's received dozens of awards and over 30 honorary doctoral degrees. She is best known for her autobiographies which focus on her childhood and early adult experiences.

Things you might not have known about Dr Maya:

  • Her older brother nicknamed her "Maya" derived from "My" or "Mya Sister".
  • She changed her professional name to "Maya Angelou" a "distinctive name" that set her apart.
  • She was mute for almost 5 years until her teacher Mrs. Bertha Flowers helped her speak again.
  • She was active in the civil rights movement and worked with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.
  • In 1993, Dr Angelou recited her poem On the Pulse of Morning at President Bill Clinton's inauguration, making her the first poet to make an inaugural recitation since 1961.
  • Attempts have been made to ban her books from some US libraries, but her works are widely used in schools and universities worldwide.
  • She worked as the first black female streetcar conductor in San Francisco.
  • She appeared in an off-Broadway review that inspired the film Calypso Heat Wave, in which Angelou sang and performed her own compositions.
  • She lived in Accra, Ghana from 1962-1965.
  • Evidence suggests that Angelou was partially descended from the Mende people of West Africa.
  • She did not earn a university degree but it was Angelou's preference that she be called "Dr. Angelou".
  • Tributes to Angelou and condolences were paid by artists, entertainers and world leaders including President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama whose sister was named after Angelou.
  • She was working on another book, an autobiography about her experiences with national and world leaders before she passed.
